For Mental Health Awareness Week 2026 (11th – 17th May), the theme is all about “Action.” It’s a reminder that while talking is vital, taking small, tangible steps for our own well-being can make a world of difference.
At Castle Quay, we believe your visits here should be more than just a place to tick off a to-do list; it should be a space to breathe, connect, and reset. Whether you are walking in from the Canal or visiting from across Oxfordshire, here is how you can use Castle Quay and the beautiful surrounding Banbury town centre to boost your mindset this May.
1. Savour a Slow Morning at Coffee #1
There is something deeply meditative about the hum of a coffee shop. Coffee #1 is designed for “slowing down,” making it the perfect spot to practice mindfulness. Sit in one of their cosy corners, leave your phone in your pocket, and simply enjoy the aroma of a perfectly poured latte.
Find your cosy corner and explore the Coffee #1 menu here.
2. Nourish Your Body at Holland & Barrett
A positive mindset is often fuelled by what we eat. If you’ve been feeling sluggish, pop into Holland & Barrett for advice on vitamins or magnesium (great for sleep!) to help your body handle the stresses of daily life more effectively.
Find their opening times here to shop their wellness products in-store.
3. Take a Mindful Canal-Side Stroll
We are incredibly lucky to have the Oxford Canal running right alongside us. Stepping out of the centre and onto the towpath for a 15-minute walk can lower cortisol levels instantly. Watch the narrowboats go by and enjoy the transition from the urban Banbury town centre to the calming waterside.
4. Find Focus with a New Book at Waterstones
Getting lost in a story is a form of escapism that actually strengthens the brain. Pick up a new novel or a beautiful journal from Waterstones. Writing down your thoughts, even just three things you’re grateful for, can significantly shift your perspective.

5. Get Active at Lock 29
Movement is medicine. While Lock 29 is famous for its incredible food, it’s also a hub for community events and pop-up fitness or craft workshops. Engaging your hands in a new craft or visiting “Zilfarni” is a great way to break a cycle of stress.

Mental Health Awareness Week is a reminder that you don’t have to make huge leaps to feel better. Whether it’s a walk by the water, a chat over coffee, or finding a new hobby, taking action starts with one small choice. We hope to see you at Castle Quay this May as we all work towards a brighter, more positive mindset together.
